October 2024 Newsletter

Rick Robinson
Hello Folks.
Seems like summer has flown bye once again and it’s time for our
fall meeting on October 6. I hope everyone had a great summer and
that you managed to pick up or sell a few items. Rose and I are still
picking up a clock or two, even though we agreed on no more clocks! It
is a weakness.
Speaking of selling things, don’t forget to bring a few items for the
Mart tables. You may use the silent auction process or price your items
separately. The Mart is a huge part of our meetings so your help in
packing the tables with items is appreciated. I know Gerry Koolen is
once again gathering up a few tables full of interesting things that we
all need.
Our display theme will be Seth Thomas clocks. Thomas was one of
the most prolific clockmakers in the US setting up shop in 1853 in
Plymouth Hollow Connecticut. To honor his contribution to the
community the town was renamed to Thomaston in 1875. There are
lots of Seth Thomas clocks out there, so bring one along for the display.
As I mentioned to the group earlier this summer, I’m finally
stepping down as president to pursue some of my other interests and
will not be attending this meeting. I have totally enjoyed my time (49
years with NAWCC) in this role and have met so many wonderful people from our Chapter as well as the folks from Toronto, Chapter 33.
I’ve also learned so much from the guest speakers of both Chapters.
This sharing of information and volunteerism is key for the survival of
any Chapter.
We have reached a turning point for our club and you folks must
decide if you are going to carry on. Charlie has the Legion booked for
this meeting only! It takes more than just a couple of people to carry
the load at every meeting. My gramma used to say, “many hands make
light work”.
Instead of a program this time, Charlie & Wayne would like to
encourage a good discussion on how to keep this show on the road.
Please bring your ideas and be prepared to roll up your sleeves and
help carry the load.
Charlie Magee will still be our liaison with the legion and will help
setting up and taking down the tables. Help before and after the
meeting with the tables would be appreciated.
Madison Laprise has agreed to carry on as treasurer and
membership secretary. A big thank you to Madison for keeping us on
track for the last couple of years!
Richard Dumala has created a great website for us as well. Check
it out. https://www.nawcc92.com/
We’ll need someone to put together a newsletter to share what’s
happening with the upcoming meetings.
Need someone to keep the coffee flowing.
Someone to sell 50/50 tickets.
If someone would like to take over from Rose and bring in some
baking, I know it would be appreciated.
We’ll also need someone to pull all this together as well as to
drum up some interesting programs for the meetings.
The $30 yearly dues will be collected afterwards, pending on the
outcome of the meeting.
Hope you can make it on the 6th.
